3 Types of Breast Implant Incisions
Periareolar or Around the nipples - have less or no noticeable scars; done along the line of the nipple skin
Axillary or Under the armpit - incision is done under the arms
Inframammary or In the breast fold - incision is done along the underside crease between the breasts and chest
The incisions or pockets are the entry points of the implants. Non-silicone implants are empty when inserted into the pockets and they are filled with saline solution once they're in place. Silicone implants are filled when inserted into the pockets.
Surgery usually takes one to two hours.

Recovery from Breast Implant Surgery
After your surgery, you will feel soar in the next couple of days. Pain killers should be taken as prescribed by your plastic surgeon.
If your job does not require you to do heavy lifting or is not demanding, you can return to work after a few days. However, doing other normal activities such as heavy chores, sports activities and lifting heavy loads may take around 2 to 3 weeks. The breasts are still sensitive during the recovery period and you should wait and follow your doctor's recommendations.
Sutures and drainage are still in place after surgery. Absorbable sutures are now very common. Drainage depends if the patient requires it.Extra breast support is required to position the breast implants. Sports bras or compression bandage are advisable to use.Scars are usually present after the surgery. They are usually pink and gradually fade over time.
If you encounter any complications during recovery such as fever, redness and warm sensations on your breasts, you should call your doctor ASAP.
